The next band practice is this coming Wednesday (1/2/12) from 2.30pm to 6pm. You are NOT supposed to follow the yellow paper pasted on your class noticeboard and band will still remain at 2.30pm to 6.00pm on Wed and Fri. Also, you are only given 30min after your lesson ends to come for band because we will still mark attendance and record names of those who are late.

If you want to know the band practices for this term, please feel free to go to our band notice board located near the bookshop to see it. Also, we will be announcing our new band rules for 2012 this coming practice as the start of a new year!

Please be puntual for EVERY band practice, don't think that if there is no majors around means you can be late as we will always watch out and punish those who are late.

We will have a rehearsal in the hall and the songs we are performing are poker face and Gum leaf rag, while we will have gonna build a mountain and chariots of fire as standby songs if we need to play for background music. The next band practice will tentatively be on the 11/1/12 (Wed) from 2.30pm to 6.00pm.

2)Those who have taken the band skirt or pant during last friday's practice, please bring $28 on the next practice and pass it to any of the majors.

Please photocopy the original scores if you have not today and pass it to the librarians on the next practice. The librarians will be checking for the quality of the original scores and are going to collect money for the band fund if they are not returned in proper shape, for example crumpled, torn ,etc.

Below are some notices for you to take note of:

1) The next practice is this coming monday (28/11/11) from 9am to 3pm. We will be eating lunch outside school at around 11.30am.

2) For those who are not here for the band camp, please pass any of the majors during the next practice your photocopied passport with the stamp on it if you are overseas. For those who are sick, we only accept MCs and NO parent's letter is allowed.

3) Please make sure that you are free on the dates below as these are the additional practices and events:
    Band Practice: 28 december 2011 from 9am to 1pm
    Sec 1 Orientation: 29 december 2011 from 8am to 1pm
    Band Practice: 30 december 2011 from 9am to 1pm
Those who are overseas on the above dates MUST photocopy the page of your passport where the stamp is on it and pass it to us during the next practice. Also, we only accept MC if you are sick on the above dates and NO parent's letter is allowed.

The band holiday practice consent form will be given out to all of you by the next band practice. Also, please bring $10 this coming practice as we will collect it for the fund used in the band camp and also for our band fund. As for the rest of the money that we told you to save up, they will most likely be used in the band tee that we are going to make.

2) The band camp, from 21st to 23rd November packing list is shown below. Please prepare all the necessary items listed below in this 2 week.

Things to bring:

1. 5 sets of clothing (3 sets of school approved attire for morning, 2 sets of pyjamas, bermudas)

2. 3 sets of undergarment.

3. Slippers (used after dinner only)

4. 2 pair of socks.

5. Toiletries (Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush)

6. Towel

7. Water bottle

8. Cup (for storing hot drinks)

9. Insect repellent

11. Pair of trackpants (optional)

12. Stationeries (Pen/Pencil/Notebook)

15. Spectacle band or rubber band for securing spectacles

Do Not bring:

1. Handphone (the majors will confiscate them at the start of the camp)

Hello Guys!
The next band practice will be on 4/11/11 (Friday) from 11am to 1pm. Please ensure that all the new scores are photocopied and returned by the next practice. If any of the original scores are not returned, you will have to contribute to the band fund by paying $0.30 per page and if the original scores are returned in bad condition, the charge per page is $1.00.
For those who are late for today's practice without a valid reason and are punished with 10 push-ups, subsequent practices that you are late will have to do 10 push-ups plus a charge of $0.50.
Lastly, please come for every band practice as the 25th November band Concert is drawing near and we certainly need more practices to improve on our techniques and skills.

1) Here is a gentle reminder by the welfare committee:
Please be reminded to wipe away your saliva which you have dripped/ emptied on the floor (including the band room floor), because it is EXTREMELY UNHYGENIC! For wind players who need to empty their saliva from their instruments, you might want to bring a small container to band practices, so that you can empty your saliva into the container without dirtying the floor. Thank you!
Duty list
Groupings:
1. Saxophone + Trombone
2. Clarinet
3. Euphonium + Tuba + French Horn
4. Percussion + Double reeds
5. Flutes + Trumpets
About the duty roster…
- The duty roster is according to the group numbers and is repetitive. So if group 5 is the last group and has finished their duties, group 1 will go again.
- For 5 practices, each group will be in charge of the cleanliness and tidiness of the rooms that have been used for band practice.
Carrying out of duties:
- After the end of each practice, the group in charge will be given 5-10 minutes to clean and tidy up the room(s) used. If more than 1 venue has been used, split into sub groups to tidy the respective venues.
- Section leaders are to make sure that members cooperate and tidy fast. No one is to deliberately skip fall-out.
- The welfare team will be supervising every clean-up.
During clean-up…
- Sweep the floor, pick up litter, empty the dustbin, and arrange chairs and stands neatly.
- If you see files/photocopied scores on the floor, put them on the chair nearest to it.
- If there are original scores scattered on the floor, please pass them to any of the librarians (Rachelyn, Joelle, Si Ting, Shabira or Jia Min).
- If you see instruments/ parts of instruments/ items related to instruments such as mouthpiece covers, mouthpiece, cork grease, etc, please pass them to any of the quartermasters (Belle, Isabel, Xin Yi or Robin).
2) The next band practice is this Friday (26/08/11) from 2.30pm to 6.00pm. Please come for band on time and don't talk when Mr. Samuel is going through different parts of the piece even if it may be unrelated to you. If we caught you talking so loudly that disturbs Mr. Samuel for the first time, we will only give you a warning, but subsequent times when you talk loudly, we will have to punish you. Please also control yourself from using your phone during band practices (which include sectionals, except for breaks).
3) You are suppose to produce a Medical Certificate or Parents' Letter if you are absent for that particular band practice and please inform your Section Leader or any major before hand that you won't be coming.

Next Monday will be our performance! and it is the FIRST performance for the sec 1s!
Please be in the band room at 6.45am SHARP or even earlier because we are opening the band room at 6.35am to 6.40am. Please wear your full band uniform including tie to school but can be without your blazers first. For girls, please pin up your hair and for everyone, please wear socks that are to half ankle length as we are going to check your attire and punish those who do not follow instructions. You do not need to bring any attire to change after our performance as we are wearing our full band uniform for the entire day.

Please be reminded that the next band practice is on this Friday (5/8/11) from 2.30pm to 6.00pm. We will be having a rehearsal with the Uniform Group for NDP this Friday. For the Senior band, you do not need to bring full band uniform this Friday but you are reminded to get your uniform ready by Monday for performance. Hey people!
1) For the Junior band, I have send all of you a message yesterday regarding the full band uniform you are suppose to wear during NDP. For those who did not receive it or are still unaware, please purchase parts of your full band uniform by this weekend as we will check your uniform on the friday practice.
The items you are suppose to buy are:
1.White collar long-sleeve shirt
2. Half knee length white socks
3. Black boots
You can purchase these items in the Army Wholesale Market located at Beach Road or any shops that sell it. If you are sill unable to find them, you can approach any Majors or Seniors. Also, please come on this Wednesday practice as we are going to help you find a blazer that suit your size and give you your ties. As for your pant or skirt, you are suppose to wear school short for the boys and school skirt for the girls on the day of performance.
2) The next band practice will be on the coming wednesday (3/8/11) from 2.30pm to 6.00pm. Please try to make it for the coming practices as we only left 2 more practices before our NDP performance and we are only going to have 1 rehearsal, which is on this friday, with the Uniform Group. Those who did not come on last wednesday's practice, please collect the latest band schedule from the band notice board near the school canteen. For the Senior band, please make yourself available on the coming Saturday (23/7/11) from 2pm to 9pm even though the schedule state that it is from 4pm to 8pm as our performance timing is still yet to confirm by the Macpherson CC. Second, please refrain yourself from using your handphone during band practices including sectionals as we only allow handphone during break. Hello people! Was the game fun? Don't worry, this won't be the last time we are having games!

The next band practice will be next wednesday (6/7/11) from 2.30pm to 6.00pm. Please remember to return all the original scores to the librarians as we will take action if there are still any original score in your section that are yet to return. Also, for the Senior band, please ensure that you are free from 2pm to 9pm on 23/7/11 because we are performing at the Macpherson CC. As for the Junior band, please practice the songs for national day which include Land of Hope and Glory, March Together, General Salute, National Anthem and Memories of Friendship (can try to play this song after learning the other 4 songs).

I know that sometimes band is quite boring, especially when Mr Samuel is working on some parts of the song with other section, but can we try to respect Mr Samuel by not talking or using our phone as this is quite distracting for Mr Samuel. Maybe we can try to learn some new things like dynamics, pitching and other stuff when Mr Samuel is going through the scores with other section even though it may not concern us as it is always good to learn new knowledge.

Please don't be late for practice and if you can't make it for band, please inform your section leader or any majors. If you didn't come for any practice, we will need a parent's letter or Medical Certificate for that particular practice. :)

Hey guys.. I'm sure you all heard what we all said just now right.

It's not that we don't allow you all to talk to your friends and have fun. I know it's tiring after a day of lessons, and you just wanna spend and enjoy your time w/ your friends but hey, we're all here to learn music. We're all musicians, let's have the musicianship and show respect okay?We're not trying to pinpoint anyone, it's just that today's reflection was the accumulation from previous practices, and the problem has been arising. We all learn and grow together yeah? (:
And really, every minute counts! There's just 4 more practices to SYF. Think about it, can you really play all your parts, so much so that you can play the whole song w/o looking at the score? There's muchmuch more to polish up!

HEY BAND, well done for yesterday. We're probably too tired or nervous already, hence our performance was not quite expected. Don't be too disheartened by the performance yesterday yeah because we had three straight days of practices. Nonetheless, we shouldn't be complacent and do keep in mind that SYF is coming in 23 days' time! If we're able to have attendance as good as yesterday, and if everyone is able to remember to apply what's being taught, we shouldn't worry about SYF!

Its time for us to improve on our dynamics and some of the technical problems, especially the woodwinds. Also, we should also try to adapt to the change in environment. Its echoic in the halls, so please learn to listen to the other players to come in together. Furthermore, we should also learn to overcome our stage-fright so that we will be able to play well despite our nervousness. Once all these are settled, a Silver is very likely to be attained!

YO ALL! How have you been? Stay very healthy for this two months arh, SYF is so near.

1. Firstly, please take note that we will be having 3 Practices during this March Holiday:

16th - 18th March 2011, the timings are all located at the left side of this page. You're reminded to keep yourself free for these practices as well as the SOUND CHECK. The sound check would be an unsuccessful one if one or more players are absence.
This is very important as it is our very last sound check to make necessary changes to the Band arrangement and sound, etc. Hence, you're reminded again to keep yourself free on 26th March 2011. Thank you! Sec 1 come for Practice at 1pm.

2. Secondly, if you're unable to attend any of the practices/sound check, please inform Miss Johnson and the majors by this Tuesday. We would need to finalize the total number of people for our dinner/lunch.

3. Thirdly, the exchange next Wednesday will be with the following School Bands:

YO ALL. Today's attendance was not very good. SYF is only 4weeks from now. This means that we'll have less than 12practices or so to improve on our playing standards. For those who attended practices on Wednesday, please help to inform those who were not there about what Mr Samuel told us. For example, the required dynamics, phrasing etc. These might seem to be unnecessary to some people but added up, it really makes the whole piece sound better if we follow his instructions.

We'll be having a Band Exchange programme with Bishan Park and Zheng Hua Sec this Saturday. Friday will be the very last day for everyone to inform Yuke Ling or me if you're unable to attend. ZHS is a Gold Band. I believe that we'll be able to share some useful tips with one another on that day. Let's do our best, and absorb as much as we can (: . For those who attended practice today, could you please inform your section mates who were not here on what Mr Samuel told us to do? Tell them about the required playing style, dynamics and whether to play out or not. SYF is about 30+ days away arh! Anyway, good playing today and keep up the effort! For those who are still feeling unwell, GET WELL SOON! Drink lots and lots of WATER and eat fruits! The weather is super weird nowadays so let's try to keep ourselves healthy!

The ROLES of the Committees

The objective of this Band Camp is mainly for the approaching SYF. The Sec 1s will be coming too, however, only one hour is allocated for the games. So the Game Committee is strongly encouraged to come up with interesting bonding games.
We'll be going for a Band Exchange on the 1st Day (16th). For time wise, General Planning people please consult the teachers. You're supposed to come up with a programme flow for the two days. If there is any doubts or questions, approach the Majors.
For the Food Committee, discuss with the teachers on the food for our meals (may include supper). On that day, assign some people to distribute food to everyone. Also, come up with a cleaning-up duty list. Include all sections inside and ensure that duty is carried out properly.
For the P.T. Committee, one hour will be allocated for our Physical Training on the 2nd Day. This could be carried out before our breakfast. Try not to conduct exercises that required lots of energy. A few rounds of running is suitable. There will be drill section during the 1 hour section too. The Majors will update you on what to do for the Drills by the next practice. So, just plan on the P.T. first.
For the Logistics Committee, your job is not just moving things around. Many people may think that your role is this but they're wrong. What you're required to do for this camp is to find the sleeping domes for us. The Sec1s are not staying over. Discuss with the teachers on the venue. You're also required to arrange sectional venues for all the sections. Also, allocate toilets for our washing up.

Advices

Work together as a team. During meetings, listen to everyone's opinions or suggestions before making the final decision. Do not make harsh decisions. Think about the time required, main purpose, venue, people needed to help, etc.
Distribute roles to everyone. Don't solo.
Make sure that everyone attend the meetings organized for you all. Someone please organise the meeting and inform the Majors the date for the meeting.
Deadline for submitting the proposal would be 9th March.
The Sec4s seniors will only be seeing through this camp. Everything, including discipline, is in charged by YOU. Assign people to take care discipline, take turns. For instance, asking everyone to move faster/ informing everyone that its meal time/ greeting the conductors. Falling in will be conducted by the Majors.
For queries, consult the teachers (mainly), Majors and conductor.
Don't be so stressed with this project. As long as everyone is doing their roles well, thing will be done swiftly and nice.
If any of the Sec3 member name is not in the committee list, please inform the Majors immediately! If people is not attending meeting without valid reasons, do something about it or inform us. Do something = take care of his/her role or inform him/her on the updates.
The teachers and us expect this camp to be successful and meaningful. So, do your best and good luck!

Dear GM band members.... I dunno how many people will read what is written here... But nevertheless there is something I wanna say...

I know a lot of you have many other commitments on weekends... But do you know how much effort was put in just to organize this exchange? This is a golden opportunity for exchange with such a recognized band...

Despite the tight schedule the other band has (concert on the following Saturday), they have set aside time for this exchange... Just so that GM band can benefit from it and maintain the silver you wanted... If you are not interested, why do we host this exchange? We can just stick to our Saturday morning practice while the other band can prepare for their concert... Who are we doing all these for? None other than you people...

Transport to and fro there cost money... What for cater 2 buses when in the end we only have half the band going? People... We have to be responsible for our own actions... The exchange does not come by easy... It's only 1 Saturday afternoon compared to your other commitments that you have... So I sincerely hope that everyone will think twice about missing this exchange... Dun disappoint those who made this exchange a possible one...

Friday is our SYF sound check at the SCH. We will be dismissed from class at 1.35pm, teachers are already informed. Have lunch then report at the bandroom by 2pm (:
- Bring your blazer along! It's to adapt yourself into wearing blazer and to keep you warm.

Sense of Urgency (IMPORTANT, please read)

For those who are here for practice today, I believe that what Mr Samuel said had really motivated you to work harder and seriously, we really need to buck up with the other schools as we're the only school that starts the set piece this late. Many of you wanted to maintain the silver but given our current standard, will we be able to attained it? It's really the time to work really really hard and hopefully, by this Friday, Mr Samuel will consent us to take part in the Band Exchange programme at the SCH. It's really very beneficial for us to participate in it as it allows us to know the standards of the other Bands and improve on ourselves. Also, this exchange also means that we'll be able to have a sound check as well.

Think about what Mr Samuel said and the achievement of the BAND depend on every one of you. Joining a CCA is not only about CCA Points but also on bringing the CCA to a higher standards and achievements. Have you feel the sense of urgency now? Whether to join the exchange will be depended on whether have you put in your maximum effort every practice. Let's try our very best and we can do it!

YO BAND, its been awhile ever since we have not played together as a whole. I hope that you've really done some practices with your instrument or even listen to any concert band songs, especially Die Fledermaus. SYF is next year & we've not complete our set piece, and the choice piece is still a problem too. It would be great if you have really sense that urge. We should try our very best to maintain the SILVER that our seniors had attained.

A) Anyway, the first very IMPORTANT announcement is that that we'll be involved in the Sec 1 Orientation on 28/12/2010. Sorry for the sudden information but your attendance is COMPULSORY. Please get ready for Fall-in at 7.15AM sharp on that day (next tuesday) with your FULL BAND UNIFORM. The dismissal time will be around 2PM and there will be a break around 1040AM. Please do not be late as this will affect the impression on BAND of the next year's SEC1. Section leaders please pass down the message you're about to receive to your section regarding to BAND. If any of the members here has any queries, please do not hesitate to ask any of the Majors or your section leader.

In short, please assemble outside the Kitchen at 715AM sharp on 28th DECEMBER (Tuesday), with your FULL BAND UNIFORM. If you're going to be late, please inform your SLs and SLs please report to the Majors. THANKS.

B) Every Band member is encouraged to put up an item for the next ROD (probably 14thJAN2011) though its not compulsory! The more the merrier. More information will be updated soon. If you're still not sure of what's ROD, ask your seniors! HAHA.

YO PEOPLE! Several of you were sick today; get well soon! Drink more water and eat well! Don't forget that Friday's our day! Haha. The attendance today was not very good but at least, most of you managed to reach before 8AM, however, from the next practice onwards, please make yourself present on time. [If you're unable to reach on time due to some reasons, please do not hesitate to inform your section leaders, Majors or teachers.]

Next coming practice will be this Wednesday (1st NOV). Please treat this practice seriously as we really need time to settle our pieces.

Hey guys!
I believe you all are tired from the band camp, some of you had also fallen ill.
